:: INTRODUCTION
Pegasus Stress offers real-time measurement of stress on the structures. This system differs from theoretical structural health calculation programs, such as FEM software, which do not provide reliable data of the real structure conditions. Pegasus Stress regularly measures and reports the stresses to which the structure is subjected to such as heat expansion and contraction, torsion, uneven loading, wind and wave impact, storm damage. Pegasus Stress is the leading state of the art technology which represents a qualitative and technological step forward in the control and in the structural management.

To date, the technologies used for structural monitoring were based upon electric devices that could not be exposed to the elements, and which needed continuous adjustments to provide only approximate measurements. Pegasus Stress fibre optic technology allows continuous long term extremely precise and reliable structural surveys.

The sensors are extremely rugged and can be installed and operated in the harshest of environments. The new generation Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors, derived from applications in civil fields, arebased on the photosensitivity of optical fibres.

They are able to transform strain and/or temperaturevariations to a shift of wavelength of reflected light. This signal is then sent out overthe fiber optic network and re-captured by a central Readout Unit that elaborates and records the data.

The system has the additional advantage not to using a network of electric cables crossing the ship but rather an inert and safe fibre optic network.

:: PEGASUS STRESS
Pegasus Stress is an innovative continuous hull stress monitoring system, based on technologies, specifically projected for the measurement of the real stress suffered by a structure. A network from 15 to 150 special FBG optic sensors, longitudinally and transversally is positioned in the most critical and sensitive sites of the structure. The system is able to provide continuous measurements 1-100 Hz and records the compression and the extension of the plate structure or concrete in the measured zone.

The system is set only once during installation and no recalibration is necessary for the entire life of the sensor. The precision and the accuracy of the surveys are guaranteed by the system which also compensates for temperature, and measures the deformations suffered by the structure.

This allows for exacting control on the real and actual stress the structure is subjected to during its lifetime. The extremely precise longitudinal and transversal measurements are recorded on a post-processing storage unit and can subsequently can be transmitted on-line. The software uses a data processing system with specific algorithms providing punctual and average outputs calculated over weekly, monthly and annual periods, in accordance with the parameters set in agreement with the classification institutes.

:: PEGASUS STABILITAS PLUS

is an onboard software conceived to make easier the study of the stability and the loading of all types of ship.Computing the data of the ship for which it has been prepared, it gives all the information about the trim and the stability of the ship in the assumed load condition and the situation of the shear and bending moment stresses in calm water (comparing them with a series of maximum admissible values).
